With Key West being such a Gay-Friendly
Island you will find many things to see and do while
you are here. Apart from the regular boat trips and
attractions offered Key West also has gay/
lesbian and exclusively male or exclusively female
snorkel trips and sunset sails. Private
gay charters can also be arranged for your
enjoyment. If you want a change from your own accommodations,
most of the guesthouses will offer a
day
pass to
their facility allowing you to experience their pool,
sunning and bar areas. For the guys, the Island
House allow
non-guests to dine at their cafe. For the girls, Pearls
Patio offers lunch each day and a visit to
their new restaurant, The Strand at Pearls is a
must do for any woman visiting Key West, regardless of
where you are staying. They also offer a cooked breakfast
Thursday through Saturday and Sunday brunch. A popular sunning spot for men
and women alike is the Atlantic Shores Resort
Pool & Bar where
you can enhance your all-over tan while listening to
the latest happening sounds and gazing out across
the Atlantic Ocean. The hardest thing you have to
do while you are there is decide whether to dip in
the pool or in the Ocean! Lunch is also available
at the pool bar and grill.
Key West has an abundance of Gay Nightlife.
The Bourbon Street Complex is one of Key
West’s best known gay hangouts and comprises
of The Bourbon Street Pub and
the 801 Bar. The Bourbon Street Pub stays
open to 4am and has “Happy Hour Specials” from
11am to 8pm, with 4 bars, including the pool bar
at the back. The Bourbon Street Pub caters
mainly to men and has dancers on the main bar from
10pm-4am. Great music, great times, Bourbon
Street is a must for any gay man visiting
Key West. No cover. The Newest addition to
this complex is Bootleggers a gay country and western
bar just around the corner on Petronia Street.
Across the street is the 801 Bar which
has the main bar downstairs overlooking Duval Street
and the famous 801 Cabaret Room upstairs.
The downstairs bar offers a friendly quieter atmosphere
where people can meet over a cocktail or just sit
with a beer and enjoy the best in 70’s music
while checking out the cute bar staff. The 801 is
also open until 4am with “Happy Hour” Specials
from 11am-8pm. There are nightly shows upstairs in
the Cabaret Room with some of Key
West’s most famous drag queens that put on
an energetic and often outrageous performance that
should come with a government health warning attached…"Leave
your mother at home!” Shows start at 9pm and
11pm, 7 nights a week and there is no cover.
To the back of the 801 is Key West’s only
leather bar, Saloon One, which is
home to the famous Key West Wreckers. Pull out those
Levi’s or chaps and go and pay them a visit.
Also part of the Bourbon Street Complex is Pizza
Joes and Magnolias. Magnolias offers
a quiet escape from the madness of Bourbon Street
and has a full bar, serves breakfast each morning
and has a lunch/dinner menu available until 11pm
each night. Pizza Joes stays open
until just before the bars close and offers some
of the best Key West pizza by the slice. Just stumbling
distance from the bars.
La te Da’s on Duval Street
offer a great range of nightly entertainment with
the famous Crystal Rooms cabaret
lounge upstairs and the By George Piano Bar downstairs.
With an outside pool bar overlooking
Duval Street and the new Ocean Grill Restaurant on
the premises, this complex is a great favorite of
Key West’s locals. The Crystal Rooms features
its main shows every week on Thursdays through Sundays
starting at 9pm. Female impersonators Randy
Roberts and Christopher Peterson offer
their renditions of Cher, Lucille Ball, Marilyn Monroe
and many, many more during their separate shows which
have become such a Key West tradition with visitors
and locals alike. The schedule is completed with
a show from Broadway 3 Ways which
has proven to be another of La te Da’s great
success stories. Schedules vary slightly depending
on the time of year so we recommend you check times
and book in advance to avoid missing out on these
spectacular entertainment specials. The By
George Piano Bar has nightly entertainment
starting at 9.30 each evening with the one of the most popular
acts being
Debra
and Patrick who usually play Friday and Saturday nights. There
is no cover to get thoroughly entertained at the By
George Piano Bar and never has something
so civilized, been so much fun.
Pearls Patio is the only all-women
bar in Key West but you do not have to be a Pearls guest
to hangout there. Pearls have a “Happy Hour” 5pm-7pm
every day except Sundays. Friday nights between
about 5pm and 8pm is their busiest time and is often
a 50/50 mix of visiting and local girls. Their “Happy
Hour” drink prices cannot be beaten and if
you are coming in for the weekend this really is
a great place to start your visit and get to know
what else is going on in town. The locals and staff
alike are always happy to recommend other places
to visit during your stay and if you are still in any way
unsure what you want to do, they will usually take
you out with them! Pearls often have liven music
with fabulous local acts such as
Sandra knight on a
Saturday evening. With some of the best drink
prices at Pearls Patio and some of the best
food at The Strand at Pearls, be sure to pay
them a visit.
If you really want to get your dance groove on,
we have Aqua Nightclub on Duval
Street which offers something for everybody. Daily
between 2pm-8pm they have “Happy Hour” prices
in their front bar looking out onto Duval. Mondays
and Wednesdays 8.30pm to close they have Karaoke and
on Thursday through Sunday their DJ’s spin
the latest dance sounds until the early hours. Famous
for its hysterical drag shows starring The
Aquanettes, this will give you something
to tell your friends about. The shows run from 9.30pm
through 11pm, Thursday through Saturday and they
always attract a very mixed, fun loving crowd. Don’t
forget to bring your dollar bills! There is a small
cover charge during show time.
Sundays is the night for a great Key West tradition, Tea
Dance at Atlantic Shores.
Good music and dancing on the deck overlooking
the Atlantic Ocean under the stars with Key West
radio DJ Rude Girl or Junior spinning
the discs. A great meeting place for men and women
this is a ‘must do’ event to complete
your Key West vacation. Tea Dance runs
from 7pm-11pm and there is no cover. Atlantic Shores
also has its ocean side “Happy
Hour” from 4.30pm-6.30pm each afternoon and Cinema
Shores features first run movies under
the stars on Thursday nights. So grab the popcorn,
pull up a lounge chair and lay back while your
cocktail waiter keeps you refreshed through one
of the latest movies.
KWEST for Men (women are allowed)
offers an ever changing atmosphere depending on the
time of day. “Happy Hour” runs from 3pm-8pm
daily and offers very reasonable drinks and great
entertainment from Key West’s infamous bartender, Billy
Buckets, who works Wednesdays through Sundays.
A fabulous mix of show tunes, those oldies but goodies
and modern day classics keeps the customers coming
time after time with an impromptu sing-a-long never
being too far away. After 10pm the place transforms
and they have male dancers strutting their stuff
to a quicker beat. A more recent tradition is the Amateur
Strip Night at Midnight on Saturday nights
where a few cocktails sometimes persuades even the
quiet ones in the group to get gyrating on the bar
wearing as little as possible (who said less is more!).
Remember, clean underwear guys!
Remember with Key West’s now world famous motto
of “One Human Family” you do not have to
be in a gay bar to meet gay people or to have a great
time. A number of different venues offer great nightly
entertainment so just give us a call, let us know what
you are looking for and we will be happy to point you
in the right direction.
